At your level, everyone knows their stuff. Everybody works hard. The difference between first and second place is almost always mindset. Focus, confidence, and mental toughness are essential ingredients in the make-up of a champion. To act like a champion, you must think like one first.

Success Story : Death Ride

My name is Steve, and I am a 67-year-old endurance cyclist. I have had a long running life goal to enter, and complete three Death Ride's. I had one to go and decided that 2022 would be the year. However, I was met with a huge hurdle. I fell walking down the stairs and fractured or broke 7 of my ribs on my left side. Needless to say, I was distraught.


However, I am a fighter and decided not to abandon my goal. But I wasn't sure how to accomplish it, being in so much pain. I began searching for an answer and came to the conclusion that I need help. Not physical help, but mental help. I needed a Mental Toughness and Peak Performance Coach to get me over the top.


With some research I found Karen Glavin and entered an agreement with her to coach me. Over a four-week period we met weekly until she empowered me with the mental toughness to fulfill the rigors of three months of training. What I learned from Karen enhanced my ability to train and ultimately my performance.


The rest is history:


On July 16th, 2022, I completed my third Death Ride! Rode 104 miles, ascended, and descended 14,000 feet of elevation gain over 6 mountain passes in California. Never would have happened without Karen Glavin's Coaching!

5 Steps to Peak Performance

1. Mental Log Keeping

Thinking positively about your last event / match / game.

2. Effective Goal Setting

Short- and long-term goals are a must. 

3. Positive Affirmations and Self-talk

Stop the negative thoughts and replace with “I am powerful!” Do this for the next 4 weeks.

4. Relaxation Techniques

Increase the mind’s acceptance of suggestion.

5. Visualization or Mental Rehearsal

Visually imagine your perfect performance; this is a blueprint of what you will execute

Everyday we have more than 60,000 thoughts. When we go through periods of adversity, as all champions do, many of these thoughts are negative.


Left unchecked, negative thoughts multiply and set your confidence on a downward spiral. When you regain control over your thoughts, your confidence comes back. 


Winners Don't Win By Accident

Winners set the scene for winning in everything they do, think, and believe. Of course, they have put in the hours, however they have something else: a winner’s attitude. Believing you can win, believing you are a champion, and that you deserve success produces results.
